Memories of Charlie

2015 - 2024

About Charlie

Charlie never walked into a room — he burst into it, tail first, with the absolute conviction that whatever was about to happen next was going to be the greatest thing that had ever occurred. Nine years of that relentless optimism changed us in ways we are still discovering. He befriended strangers, tolerated the neighbour's grumpy cat, and greeted every single morning like it was a surprise party thrown just for him. We are endlessly grateful we got to be his people.

Timeline of Moments

Early Days

Memory

He was eight weeks old, golden as sunrise, and already entirely too confident for a puppy of his size. Within twenty minutes of arriving home, Charlie had inspected every room, stolen a sock, and fallen asleep on the dog bed we had specifically placed in the corner — after dragging it to the centre of the room.

Three states, two thousand kilometres, and one golden dog with his head permanently out the window. Charlie navigated every rest stop with the seriousness of a seasoned explorer, investigated every blade of grass, and arrived at every destination happier than when he left.

Senior Years
Memory

Every single morning for nine years, Charlie woke us with the same unbearable enthusiasm — tail wagging before his eyes were fully open, ready to make the most of another day. On his last morning, he still managed a slow wag. That was Charlie: optimistic until the very end.
